Bautizada como Mayflower en honor a otra traves\u00eda hist\u00f3rica como la que fue el viaje de los fundadores de EE.UU. desde Plymouth en 1620, la nueva embarcaci\u00f3n ser\u00e1 considerablemente distinta a su antecesora. En primer lugar, carecer\u00e1 de tripulaci\u00f3n y pasajeros. De hecho, ni siquiera tendr\u00e1 un capit\u00e1n. O, mejor dicho, s\u00ed que lo tendr\u00e1, aunque no ser\u00e1 de carne y hueso: ser\u00e1 la <strong>inteligencia artificial<\/strong> la que se encargue de todas las tareas de navegaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tras unas pruebas iniciales con la IA en el Plymouth Quest, una nave tripulada del Laboratorio de Plymouth, el nuevo Mayflower emprender\u00e1 un largo viaje que prescindir\u00e1 de toda intervenci\u00f3n humana. Gracias a la utilizaci\u00f3n de c\u00e1maras y sensores, as\u00ed como los antedichos sistemas de inteligencia artificial y un archivo de un mill\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes n\u00e1uticas, el barco se enfrentar\u00e1 por s\u00ed solo a todos los imprevistos en alta mar. As\u00ed, podr\u00e1 identificar distintos tipos de barcos, boyas, arrecifes u objetos peligrosos en alta mar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imnovation-hub.com\/media\/5096180\/mayflower-interior.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>El sistema de inteligencia artificial recibir\u00e1 tambi\u00e9n datos meteorol\u00f3gicos en tiempo real, lo que le permitir\u00e1 tomar decisiones de navegaci\u00f3n y anticipar condiciones de navegaci\u00f3n adversas. Al carecer de acceso a banda ancha durante el viaje, se valdr\u00e1 de un sistema de <em>edge computing<\/em> que procesar\u00e1 todos los datos de forma local. Los sistemas de navegaci\u00f3n ir\u00e1n acompa\u00f1ados de un numerosos sensores capaces de medir la intensidad de las olas y la profundidad del agua entre otras cosas. Sus sistemas de radar permiten tambi\u00e9n detectar obst\u00e1culos a m\u00e1s de tres kil\u00f3metros de distancia. Por \u00faltimo, la autonom\u00eda de este Mayflower 2.0 se manifiesta tambi\u00e9n en sus sistemas de propulsi\u00f3n, ya que utiliza energ\u00eda solar y e\u00f3lica para desplazarse, aunque con un motor di\u00e9sel de apoyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En un futuro, las tecnolog\u00edas aplicadas en el Mayflower servir\u00e1n para la investigaci\u00f3n marina, especialmente para el an\u00e1lisis de micropl\u00e1sticos con muestras tomadas en alta mar. De esta manera, se podr\u00e1 conocer mejor el origen y la distribuci\u00f3n de esta amenaza para los ecosistemas marinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>Una industria de barcos aut\u00f3nomos a toda vela<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Este innovador barco aut\u00f3nomo es un <strong>proyecto tecnol\u00f3gico<\/strong> de la organizaci\u00f3n de investigaci\u00f3n marina Promare en colaboraci\u00f3n con IBM, que ha proporcionado el software de inteligencia artificial y los procesadores necesarios para el an\u00e1lisis de los datos. Aunque se han realizado experiencias previas con barcos aut\u00f3nomos, esta es la primera vez que una embarcaci\u00f3n afronta un reto de esta magnitud de forma completamente aut\u00f3noma. Seg\u00fan Don Scott, director t\u00e9cnico del Mayflower, se prev\u00e9 que la industria de los barcos aut\u00f3nomos alcance un valor de 130 000 millones de d\u00f3lares para el a\u00f1o 2030. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las embarcaciones aut\u00f3nomas no solo est\u00e1n destinadas a conquistar los mares, sino que, tal como mencionamos en uno de nuestros anteriores art\u00edculos, tambi\u00e9n prometen ser un veh\u00edculo urbano habitual. Hablamos, claro est\u00e1, del ferry aut\u00f3nomo.
