Entre las ventajas de esta <strong>nueva tecnolog\u00eda<\/strong> se encuentra la ausencia absoluta de emisiones de gas invernadero, ya que el \u00fanico elemento resultante de la combusti\u00f3n es el agua. Adem\u00e1s, se pueden repostar con la misma rapidez que un veh\u00edculo con motor de explosi\u00f3n. Sin embargo, aparte de los problemas log\u00edsticos de instalar una red de estaciones de repostaje para <strong>veh\u00edculos de hidr\u00f3geno<\/strong>, uno de los inconvenientes es que la producci\u00f3n de hidr\u00f3geno es cara y muchas veces contaminante. Para obtener hidr\u00f3geno se puede utilizar un combustible f\u00f3sil como el gas natural, el llamado proceso de Kv\u00e6rne, aunque la otra opci\u00f3n consiste en utilizar uno de los recursos m\u00e1s abundantes del planeta: el agua. \u00a0El mecanismo b\u00e1sico consiste en realizar una electr\u00f3lisis para separar los \u00e1tomos de ox\u00edgeno e hidr\u00f3geno. Hasta ahora, hac\u00eda falta utilizar agua dulce. Y entre agua para beber y agua como fuente de energ\u00eda, la elecci\u00f3n estaba clara. Porque la <strong>desalaci\u00f3n<\/strong> es un proceso muy intensivo en energ\u00eda. Pero en la Universidad de Stanford creen que han dado con la soluci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El secreto reside en un <strong>nuevo revestimiento met\u00e1lico para los electrodos <\/strong>que llevan a cabo el proceso de separaci\u00f3n del hidr\u00f3geno formado por hidr\u00f3xido de hierro-n\u00edquel sobre una capa de sulfuro de n\u00edquel. \u00a0El principal obst\u00e1culo de la <strong>electr\u00f3lisis en agua salada<\/strong> es que los electrodos atraen mol\u00e9culas de cloruro, que produce el deterioro del material. El nuevo revestimiento no solo evita la corrosi\u00f3n, sino que permite utilizar hasta diez veces m\u00e1s electricidad para acelerar el proceso. Adem\u00e1s, su dise\u00f1o tiene una alta eficiencia energ\u00e9tica y puede funcionar con energ\u00edas renovables, en este caso una placa fotovoltaica. No es la primera vez que se experimenta con la generaci\u00f3n de hidr\u00f3geno a partir de agua salada, pero los anteriores intentos, entre los que se cuenta la Moonshot Factory de Alphabet o la Marina estadounidense, no lograron los resultados esperados. El <strong>proyecto tecnol\u00f3gico<\/strong> se encuentra a\u00fan en una fase inicial, pero los cient\u00edficos ya han demostrado su viabilidad y consideran que podr\u00eda ser el comienzo de una nueva era de energ\u00eda basada en pilas de hidr\u00f3geno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 veh\u00edculos utilizar\u00e1n el hidr\u00f3geno? &nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ya hemos mencionado la t\u00edmida implantaci\u00f3n de los coches alimentados con hidr\u00f3geno, pero no se trata del \u00fanico campo con potencial. Si hace poco hablamos de los <strong>trenes impulsados por hidr\u00f3geno<\/strong> que se est\u00e1n desplegando en el Reino Unido, hay \u00a0iniciativas por todo el mundo encaminadas a convertir esta <strong>tecnolog\u00eda<\/strong> en realidad. Desde el avi\u00f3n basado en motores el\u00e9ctricos y de hidr\u00f3geno de una empresa de Singapur hasta el ferry propulsado con hidr\u00f3geno cuya botadura est\u00e1 prevista para este a\u00f1o en San Francisco (EEUU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una de las ideas m\u00e1s visionarias consiste en el desarrollo de <strong>barcos que utilicen hidr\u00f3geno<\/strong> obtenido en alta mar como fuente de energ\u00eda, lo que permitir\u00eda sustituir el contaminante fuel que utilizan en la actualidad. \u00bfY por qu\u00e9 no?
