El multimillonario heredero del imperio tecnol\u00f3gico Samsung, Lee Jae Yong, fue condenado este lunes a dos a\u00f1os y seis meses de c\u00e1rcel por malversaci\u00f3n y soborno, en uno de los mayores esc\u00e1ndalos que han afectado al gigante tecnol\u00f3gico surcoreano.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Se trata del \u00faltimo giro en un controvertido caso de tr\u00e1fico de influencias que hizo caer el gobierno de la expresidenta de Corea del Sur, Park Geun-hye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El empresario, tambi\u00e9n conocido como Jay Y. Lee, ya hab\u00eda sido sentenciado a cinco a\u00f1os de c\u00e1rcel por<\/strong> cargos de corrupci\u00f3n<\/strong> en 2017, aunque sali\u00f3 en libertad menos de un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s, cuando un tribunal de apelaciones desestim\u00f3 algunos de los cargos y suspendi\u00f3 su sentencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aunque Lee es oficialmente el vicepresidente de la firma, en la pr\u00e1ctica asumi\u00f3 el liderazgo del conglomerado desde que su padre dimiti\u00f3 por problemas de salud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Este nuevo rev\u00e9s judicial pone una vez m\u00e1s sobre la mesa el tema del futuro del liderazgo del l\u00edder mundial en la fabricaci\u00f3n de tel\u00e9fonos inteligentes y chips de memoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung es considerado el m\u00e1s grande los \u00abchaebols\u00bb<\/strong>, t\u00e9rmino por el que se conocen los imperios familiares industriales en Corea del Sur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Su volumen de negocio global representa cerca de un quinto del Producto Interno del Bruto (PIB) del pa\u00eds, de manera que la sentencia condenatoria de su l\u00edder puede tener repercusiones dentro y fuera de la naci\u00f3n asi\u00e1tica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expertos dicen que la sentencia podr\u00eda crear un vac\u00edo de liderazgo y obstaculizar la toma de decisiones de Samsung sobre futuras inversiones a gran escala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abEs realmente un gran golpe y una gran crisis para Samsung\u00bb, dijo Kim Dae-jong, profesor de negocios en la Universidad de Sejong, a la agencia AFP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A sus 52 a\u00f1os, Lee es el cuarto hombre m\u00e1s rico de Corea del Sur, con una fortuna estimada por Forbes en US$9.400 millones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Divorciado y padre de dos hijos, el magnate -que estudi\u00f3 en la Escuela de Negocios de Harvard- se convirti\u00f3 en 2009 en uno de los presidentes de Samsung y en 2013 fue nombrado vicepresidente de Samsung Electronics, la divisi\u00f3n que fabrica desde tel\u00e9fonos inteligentes y televisores, hasta c\u00e1maras y discos duros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pero desde que el padre de Lee sufri\u00f3 un ataque al coraz\u00f3n en 2014, se le ha considerado el jefe de facto de todo el grupo Samsung y, en consecuencia, el responsable de los problemas corporativos del gigante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tras haber cumplido una m\u00ednima parte de su primera condena por corrupci\u00f3n, Lee pidi\u00f3 perd\u00f3n en mayo del a\u00f1o pasado por los delitos corporativos en los que hab\u00eda participado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abNuestra tecnolog\u00eda y productos son considerados de primera clase, pero la mirada p\u00fablica hacia Samsung sigue siendo dura\u00bb, dijo Lee. \u00abEsto es mi culpa. Pido disculpas\u00bb.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abMe asegurar\u00e9 de que no habr\u00e1 m\u00e1s controversias sobre la sucesi\u00f3n en la administraci\u00f3n\u00bb, agreg\u00f3. \u00abY nunca tomar\u00e9 ninguna medida que vaya en contra de la ley\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pero ni sus disculpas, ni sus promesas, evitaron que la justicia emitiera una nueva condena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seg\u00fan el veredicto de la corte, Lee \u00abentreg\u00f3 activamente sobornos e impl\u00edcitamente pidi\u00f3 a la presidenta que usara su poder para ayudarlo en su sucesi\u00f3n sin problemas\u00bb al frente de la firma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abEs muy lamentable que Samsung, la principal empresa del pa\u00eds y orgullosa innovadora mundial, est\u00e9 involucrada repetidamente en delitos<\/strong> cada vez que hay un cambio de poder pol\u00edtico\u00bb, agrega el fallo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El tribunal declar\u00f3 a Lee culpable de soborno, malversaci\u00f3n y ocultaci\u00f3n de ganancias delictivas por un valor cercano a los US$7,8 millones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La defensa de Lee expres\u00f3 su decepci\u00f3n con el veredicto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abLa naturaleza de este caso es el\u00a0abuso de poder de la expresidenta\u00a0<\/strong>que viola la libertad corporativa y los derechos de propiedad. Dada esa naturaleza, la decisi\u00f3n del tribunal es lamentable\u00bb, dijo a la prensa el abogado de Lee, Lee In-jae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
