Ante esta situaci\u00f3n Intel ha estado desarrollando su propia GPU para HPC, llamada Xe-HPC o bajo su nombre en clave, Ponte Vecchio, la cual ser\u00e1 utilizada en el superordenador SuperMUC-NG<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uno de los problemas con los que se ha enfrentado Intel hasta ahora es la de no tener una arquitectura para GPUs potente, esto le ha hecho perder grandes contratos de superordenadores frente AMD, la cual puede conseguir contratos m\u00e1s f\u00e1cilmente gracias a su tecnolog\u00eda combinada de CPU y GPU. Con NVIDIA comprando ARM y dejando a Intel fuera de sus dise\u00f1os la \u00fanica soluci\u00f3n existente para los de Pat Gelsinger es optar por desarrollar su propia GPU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intel nos adelanta su GPU Ponte Vecchio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"it\" dir=\"ltr\">Some Ponte Vecchio Eye Candy <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fCG2rZrozI\">pic.twitter.com\/fCG2rZrozI<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Raja Koduri (@RajaXg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RajaXg\/status\/1389939132856619013?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 5, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A trav\u00e9s de su cuenta de Twitter, el arquitecto jefe para gr\u00e1ficos de Intel, Raja Koduri, ha vuelto a hacer menci\u00f3n de Ponte Vecchio a trav\u00e9s de una animaci\u00f3n donde podemos ver como se organizan por diferentes tiles o chiplets su dise\u00f1o m\u00e1s ambicioso hasta la fecha, la GPU para HPC o computaci\u00f3n de alto rendimiento Ponte Vecchio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hardzone.es\/app\/uploads-hardzone.es\/2021\/05\/Ponte-Vecchio.jpg\" alt=\"GPU Intel Ponte Vecchio\" class=\"wp-image-605070\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ponte Vecchio se basa un dise\u00f1o de&nbsp;<strong>dos GPUs sim\u00e9tricas Intel Xe-HPC<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hardzone.es\/reportajes\/que-es\/rambo-cache\/\">compuestas por t<strong>iles o chiplets<\/strong><\/a>, los cuales para intercomunicarse entre s\u00ed hace uso de las \u00faltimas tecnolog\u00edas de empaquetado de Intel como son&nbsp;<strong>Foveros y EMIB.&nbsp;<\/strong>Y&nbsp;es que nos encontramos ante un dise\u00f1o que tiene una complejidad de&nbsp;<strong>cien mil millones de transistores repartidos entre sus 47 tiles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SuperMUG-NG: Ponte Vecchio m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de Aurora<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hardzone.es\/app\/uploads-hardzone.es\/2021\/05\/SuperMUC-NG.jpg\" alt=\"SuperMUC-NG\" class=\"wp-image-605073\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A trav\u00e9s del medio alem\u00e1n Hardwareluxx hemos podido saber que en el Leibniz Supercomputing Centre de M\u00fanich, en Alemania, Intel ha obtenido un contrato para el desarrollo de la segunda iteraci\u00f3n de superordenador&nbsp;<strong>SuperMUC-NG para 2022<\/strong>, el cual har\u00e1 uso de hardware casi exclusivamente de Intel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las CPUs del SuperMUC-NG ser\u00e1n<strong>&nbsp;Intel \u00abSaphire Rapids\u00bb<\/strong>, los Intel Xeon Scalable de cuarta generaci\u00f3n que compartir\u00e1n el n\u00facleo Golden Cove con Alder Lake y se espera que de cara al almacenamiento utilice hasta un<strong>&nbsp;1 PB en almacenamiento<\/strong>&nbsp;a trav\u00e9s de un DAOS (Distributed Asynchronous Object Storage) donde se utilizar\u00e1n SSD basados en la memoria persistente&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hardzone.es\/reportajes\/que-es\/intel-optane\/\">Intel Optane<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hardzone.es\/app\/uploads-hardzone.es\/2021\/04\/NVIDIA-GRACE-Roadmap.jpg\" alt=\"NVIDIA Grace Roadmap\" class=\"wp-image-596425\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>En principio esto no ser\u00eda una sorpresa los superordenadores con CPUs de Intel, pero en la GPU escogida hay un cambio importante, ya que en vez de optar por una GPU NVIDIA Tesla esta vez se ha optado por la&nbsp;<strong>GPU Intel Ponte Vecchio<\/strong>. Lo cual es una victoria importante para Intel, ya que la actual iteraci\u00f3n del SuperMUC-NG utiliza precisamente GPUs de NVIDIA, lo que nos demuestra que las GPU Ponte Vecchio son de mayor rendimiento que la NVIDIA GA100, la cual es la GPU para HPC de NVIDIA hasta la fecha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hemos de tener en cuenta que NVIDIA lanza una nueva arquitectura cada dos a\u00f1os y sabemos por su mapa de ruta m\u00e1s reciente que la siguiente arquitectura podr\u00eda aparecer en el 2022. Durante la misma fecha que Intel lanzar\u00e1 Ponte Vecchio. No sabemos si para la segunda iteraci\u00f3n del SuperMUC-NG se ha tenido en cuenta la siguiente generaci\u00f3n de NVIDIA, pero no podemos negar que ganar un contrato de este tipo no resulta f\u00e1cil. En especial si tu rival es la todopoderosa NVIDIA que domina con pu\u00f1o de hierro dicho mercado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fuente<\/strong>:\u00a0<a
